Glow in the Dark: Incredible India’s Magical Land of Light

3. West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya

Imagine visiting the twilight forest from the movie Avatar in real life. Visiting the West Jaintia Hills, with its glowing mushrooms, is exactly like that. When researchers from China and India travelled to Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills District after hearing about ‘electric mushrooms,’ they had no idea what they were in for. When they arrived, the native guide urged them to turn off their lamps, and that is when they saw the magic. The researchers couldn’t believe their eyes when they witnessed tiny mushrooms emit light all by itself. The villagers utilize these mushrooms to navigate across the woods. These electrified mushrooms are a new species of Roridomyces, according to tests.
